OpenSim and Computer Reality(s) : Are you about to buy a new computer ? -and- Why Is Windows 10 such a Monumentally Really Bad Joke

By Avatar JayR Cela

#1 It is still the most insecure Operating System in existence, and at the mercy of countless attacks by constant criminal and malicious attacks, unless you are on the subscription based Enterprise version and it is completely locked down by the Sys. Admin.

#2 The Windows REGISTRY is, has been and will continue to be a JOKE until the end of time, a really bad idea, and a complete jumbled mess.

#3 The Win 10 Up Date process, ( and God help you if you are unlucky enough to have the Win10 Home version installed ) The Cumulative updates are a monumental pain in the ass and the constant reboot annoyance after so many even small updates is bad joke at worst.

Ok look, I am retired and have been repairing computers as a hobby for friends family and acquaintances for the past 20 years or so. You bring me a Desktop or Tower, I will fix it 9 out of 10 times, you bring me a non working Laptop, I will usually tell you to just throw it into the Recycle Bin and go buy another one, or take it to someone that specializes in fixing Laptops. Or give it to me and I will scrap out the Hard Drive and Memory Modules, other that that there is nothing to fix, unless you are a masochist and enjoy paying an expert bukoo bucks for a repair.

My advice if you are considering buying a new computer, ask or make a new friend that is a Linux person and build your own desktop - tower, or just spend the extra money and buy a Mac.

OpenSim : HyperGrid : My Newest Home is Located on TheKaz Grid

By Avatar JayR Cela

It has been several months now since I first met Avatar - Kazuko Yoshida, at a meeting on another grid. I have a hobby in OpenSim providing as many free-bee's as I am able to randomly collect from the HyperGrid. Kazuko asked me if i would be willing to contribute to her new endeavor. I said yes and so far I have found it to be an absolute blast.

Now I do have to make one statement, this is a Gorean friendly Role Play Grid, and I am not into the GOR philosophy. That being said the Gorean area is a self contained 16 standard 256x265 Sims, and does not expand itself into the other sims. Instead we are focusing on a strategy that will eventually connect all of the MainLand Regions via a river, its tributaries, and an extremely large lake, in other words, leisure boating is a very big priority here.

We have made tremendous progress as of late since switching from OS 0.8.2 to OS 0.9RC2, there are still some odd Sim crossing bug's that need to be addressed, hopefully these issues will be ironed out with the final OS 0.9 release.

There are some free parcels of land available, and a new Shopping District  looking for content creators. Whether you are inexperienced or an old time OpenSim user, perhaps you are migrating from SecondLife or InWorldz, all are welcome to stop by and have a look around. We also have the Gloebits currency enabled.

We are recommending the FireStorm viewer for all residents, Singularity will work for a visit, however it seems to choke and flame out if you try and use it as a resident Avatar.

OpenSim Hypergrid : Gloebits Universal HyperGrid Currency : It's Time for Serious Consideration

By Avatar JayR Cela

I must start out by saying I am not directly involved with Gloebits beside having recently established an account for intergrid purchasing power of OpenSim-HyperGrid content. I think on the surface it is an excellent idea, how it will work out who knows, it is an exciting prospect. I think it's about time to consider the inevitable, if the HyperGrid id going to survive it needs a way to exchange commerce between grids besides the Kitely Market Place. Believe it or not some folks just love to go out exploring and shopping, I know I do. Buying from a catalog is great, it's convenient. It's also quite boring, :_) I enjoy walking and flying around just to marvel at the depth of creativity taking place within the OpenSim Metaverse.

From what I have been reading lately SecondLife is loosing Sim's on a month to month basis at an alarming rate, and the steady decline may soon be irreversible. Lets face it, running a Server Farm is expensive, and LL blew it big time years ago by not embracing what it had helped to create. I believe Project Sansar will be a total FLOP right out of the gate. Ebbie Linden will be relieved of his job, and a new narrow minded person shall be put into place in order to continue the stupidity.

GloeBits on the other hand offers a unique opportunity for the HyperGrid to unite into what is it's ultimate destiny. One Gigantic intertwined and massive Grid, capable of sustaining most small Real Life country's with the amount of incoming and outgoing trade commerce. Will it be GloeBits ? Who knows, this could turn out to be another disaster similar to the screwball idea a year or so back, the name of that ill fated project eludes me right now, BrightHouse Canopy or something or other. But basically it was doomed to be a flop from the get go, supposedly it allowed you to pay extra RL $ to have a 3rd party stream the SL Client to your IP address. Total Failure, and a number of people suddenly found themselves with nothing more than a pipe dream, and an extra bill on their Credit Card or PayPal bill.

GloeBits is different, it does not promise something unachievable and although the idea is a lofty one, and in my opinion just as brilliant as the Kitley Market Place, it is certainly worth consideration along with deep scrutiny, as well. In the mean time it seems to be establishing a rather firm foothold in some of the more recognized minor grids. Please see this link listed below.
